Being a plumber can be a very rewarding career! Whether you're thinking about becoming your own boss and starting up on your own or working for a plumbing business there's no denying that most plumbers get a sense of job satisfaction that comes with this type of hands on work.

The intensive plumbing courses usually last between six and eight weeks depending on your course provider, during which you will be instructed on all aspects of being a domestic plumber.

Training courses run throughout the year and normally the timetable consists of Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm with the weekends off, it's not unusual for students to stay in a bed and breakfast throughout the week days if you live a great distance from the training centre.

You will be taught the Plumbing theory as well as practical hands on training i.e. fitting radiators, Pipes etc. so you will quickly master the plumbing skills and techniques you are shown.

The City & Guilds is the industry recognized training accreditation body, so it's important to make sure your training center is accredited by them (just ask to make sure).

It's also important to understand that the City & Guilds Plumbing Course (6129) teach's you the skills you need to become a plumber, is just that, a course.
It is the NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) Level 2 Plumbing that is the trade recognised industry standard qualification

The City & Guilds plumbing course will get you to a skill level where you should be well able to pass the NVQ assesment.
You only gain your NVQ once you have been examined at a place of work doing a variety of plumbing jobs by a NVQ examiner.

Achieving the NVQ is to demonstrate that you have understood and mastered what you have learnt during the city and guilds courses and can into practice safely.
Some training providers can arrange for you to get onsite work for you to be assessed by the NVQ examiner (ask first if they can arrange this for you).

Plumbing Courses have little if any entry requirements, other than the eagerness to learn the skills you will need for your newly selected career.

The demand for qualified plumbers has never been higher - and with these state of the art plumbing training courses there has never been a better time to train to become a plumber.
